Royal Naval and maritime history and artefacts, helicopter simulator and a focus on Horatio Nelson.
Being fond of old sailing ships, I had to see the HMS Warrior closely. If you want to do so, you'll have to purchase a ticket to get in to visit the huge place. Most attractions are included, but if you wish to visit the HMS Warrior, it'll cost you PS36 , which is rather dear. Should you skip the ship, the rest of the museum is fantastic and deserves a visit. Be prepared to walk, though.
Cracking day out with the family. Kids 6 & 7 enjoyed themselves. Harbour tour was great with the two aircraft carriers in full view. Will definitely be back!
Another day out to the Historic Dockyard. This time we visited the Royal Navel museum. Marvellous place with lots of History for young and old alike. I was especially knocked out by the Admiral Nelson artefacts. So much and well presented. The main museum is fantastic with all the elements of the Royal Navy displayed. One item to look for is the original 42lb, 3.5 ton cannon salvaged from the first Victory with sank in the early 1700's. Fantastic condition and it was still loaded when brought up. A brilliant day out and a must for all sea dogs
Whilst visiting the historic dockyard yielded some fascinating insights into our past Navy (Victory, Mary Rose, Warrior), it was quite apparent the lack of more modern warfare exhibits. There is a 'nod' to the modern Navy in one building but it kind of seemed an afterthought rather than a focused exhibit. The Falklands being the biggest and most well known of the recent Navy should see more exhibits in my opinion, as should general modern warfare inc Jets, Submarines, SF, EW, etc... Some years ago the dockyard had a fantastic 'Action Stations' building full of Royal Marines stuff, helicopter simulator and plenty of other interesting things for the younger audience - it's gone now and I felt it was a massive shame to have lost/changed that. The museum will appeal to the older audience for the historical factor, but there isn't enough to keeper the younger generations excited. Also disappointing was the Submarine museum in Gosport (included in your annual ticket price). This was tired, worn out and had plenty of interactive exhibits that didn't work. Again, Submarines have a rich history from WW2 to Modern Warfare, and could be so much better/bigger and exciting, but it just isn't. This museum could really excel but seems to be held back as it hasn't really changed much in many years...
Another wonderful day out here. The full family experience tickets let you come back again and again throughout a whole.l calendar year. Still not managed to bore the children who keep on making us come back to see more and more.
We arrived on a sunny day with a slight breeze so that was good. We bought our tickets online for PS31 each. You can park just around the corner for PS7 , there's a co-op there so it's worth getting a few drinks and sandwiches if you want. After having our bags checked we went to the submarine museum across the water using the water bus which is included in the price -great!. We then did the various museums, toured Victory -great, had ice-cream (PS2 for cone is fair) We also saw the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier- not part of the museum yet though! After a break we then walked around Warrior , great , we really enjoyed it . We'd recommend it
