This visitor centre is situated at the heart of Dartmoor National Park, offering insight into the region's rich history, geology, and wildlife. Interactive exhibits and displays showcase the park's unique features, while knowledgeable staff are on hand to provide information and advice on exploring the area. The centre also serves as a hub for guided walks and events, and its shop sells a range of local products and souvenirs. From the centre, visitors can access the scenic Haytor Rocks, a popular spot for hiking and picnicking.
Loved it the walk was fantastic crystal clear water. On point for Nature lovers took me back to my childhood in Yorkshire.Although I live in London now going there felt like we enjoyed the water specially stone hopping I think that's what it's called. And at the end we had ice cream from the little shop/ shed looking hut best ginger ice cream try the honey guys it's bom.
A convenient place to park up (or walk from the Moorland Hotel) and informative staff. A great view of Haytor rocks too!
Very nice. Has WiFi so you can pay the parking charge online. Toilets are adequate. Great location. There are alternate car parks and a dedicated one for caravans. Worth a visit.
Modern parking ticket machine and open toilet facilities even when the visitor centre is closed. Lovely walk (but can be windy so bring layers). The quarry is beautiful and worth a wander in that direction. Make sure you like hills if you want to get to the Torr for photos.
We come to Haytor every time we come to Devon. We love climbing the rocks. Wasn't a fan of the car park this time. The car park we wanted to use had a pay and display machine which wasn't working but advised to pay online using the app. There is very little signal up there so did take a while and also charged an extra 50p on the app which I think is rather cheeky!
We are from the States and have done a lot of wild camping with the progeny in tow, but none over here in the UK... So we were excited and a bit apprehensive about our first wild camp in Dartmoor. Max and (Adam?) from this visitor centre were amazing. They were both highly informed and helpful. When I mentioned werewolves (in hopes of scaring my kids a bit), Adam played right along :-) After we set camp the first night, we actually caught site of Max hiking along a trail and he remembered us and checked in to see if we were ok. I was just struck by his sincerity and concern. Thanks Dartmoor! Your sheep, ponies, heather, tors, ruins, crazy roads are wonderful, but your humans are your greatest asset!
