A amazing place to visit, the railway history being saved is wonderful. The exhibits are of top quality, especially the Mallard with a real attention to detail in all the renovations throughout the museum. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The museum is free to enter but donations are greatly appreciated. There is limited parking at the museum (PS10 all day) but the park and ride ( route 59) stops just outside the entrance which, is an affordable alternative.
Amazing free museum, many vintage trains and they all look so impressive! No need to book ticket in advance really, they just let you in since it's free. Not too crowded even on Sunday afternoon. Would be even better if there are more interactive things to do, or being able to go in one of the vintage trains. The cute train back to York center is nice too. It's PS3.5 for adult, single journey.
We had an amazing visit to the York National Railway Museum! The exhibits were fascinating and well-presented, showcasing a rich history of railway innovation and travel. The collection of locomotives and carriages was impressive, and the interactive displays kept both adults and children engaged. The museum was clean, well-organized, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful educational experience for the whole family. Highly recommend for anyone interested in history or trains!
Amazing place! There's so much to see. I've been quite a few times, and I'm always blown away by the collection of trains and memorabilia. It's an amazing place to spend an afternoon, or if you are like me and look and read everything, you could spend the day. There's a couple of coffee shops and souvenir shops. I love the fact that it's free / donations. All in all a great day for all the family.
Informative and easy to get around. All staff very friendly. Great looking back in time. We'll worth a trip with children and family of all ages. Saw lots of parents with children and grandparents enjoying their time together.
Definitely one of the best museums in the country and I'm not even a train spotter. Free entry but understandably you are asked to make a contribution on entry. Excellent catering and a quality gift shop on site. The exhibits are amazing and impressive. The museum is currently being developed and all going to plan, by the end of 2026 will be even better. For me that will definitely mean a return visit to York.
