Ruined fort at the end of a 318-ft.-high peninsula built to defend against Napoleonic invasion.
Lovely place for the walks. It's dog friendly and you can find a few nice spots for picnic. Definitely not suitable for wheelchairs and small kids.
Lovely walk out to the fort, amazing views. Steep hill to the right or lots of steps to the left so be warned if unsteady on your feet. Cafe and toilets at the carpark. Information boards at the fort are very good.
Although I grew up in Bristol, I am ashamed to say we have never visited Brean Down Fort before. We managed fairly easily with a pushchair but understand it could be a long walk and steep for some. The views over Brean and Weston from the top were amazing and to get so close to Steepholm was a very lovely experience. The fort at the end was an added bonus and it was a lovely place to sit and reflect on life. As NT members we could park for free but it is well worth paying the PS6 if not. Cafe and toilets were available on this unspoilt side of Brean too. One of the loveliest walks we have had and will definitely return again and recommend to people of all ages.
A bit of a climb, but worth it on a sunny day, although they could do with replacing some of the information boards and making a bit more of the fort. Great views over the estuary.
Amazing views on a clear day, well worth the walk On a nice day you could easily lose 5-6 hrs up there Fabulous!
It's a bit of a trek, but worth the walk. Beautiful place to visit.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
