Unrestored NT property vividly showing an estate in decline, with walled gardens and orangery.
A lovely national trust property. Amazing grounds, loads of walks all over the property. Amazing gardens, our kids love the Grotto and the tunnels to the gardens. The cafe area is lovely loads of benches indoors and outdoors. A small playground as well for children. There is a massive car park and an area for coaches and disabled spots.
Have been here a few times in the past few months after discovering it and it's one of favourite places to visit, especially now that we're National Trust members. We've been just to visit the gardens and outbuildings which we love, another time to have a picnic overlooking the big pond (behind the car park), and another time for a full tour of the house which is so interesting. Will definitely do the house tour again. Going underground was very cool too and we would recommend this to all.
Had a great day out! Loads for the kids to do as part of the Summer of Play. House is genuinely fascinating and virtually unchanged for over 300 years. All the volunteers were very cheery and knowledgeable, you can tell they enjoy the house as well
Lovely place to walk away a few hours. Grounds are beautifully kept, there's plenty of cafes and toilets. An ideal place for dog walkers, with a few places you can let them off the lead. Will be visiting again.
Absolutely love it here. It's not too far from me. They have parking near the house or there's another smaller round carpark at the other entrance. The cafe has a great choice of food and drinks and they do ice creams. Loads of places to explore. There's also toilets there and a play area. There's always events on, especially during the school holidays. And they do the cinema nights in the summer.
A great National Trust property with a very long drive through pleasant parklands. The main house has been left is as it was left to the NT. There is a restaurant on site along with a separate cafe which is useful. It's worth walking through the tunnels there under the houses too to see where you come out. A short walk away is Calke church which is also worth a visit.
