Covering as much as 2,000 hectares (4,942 acres) of heather-covered hills with stunning views of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Welsh hills, this is an important place for wildlife, geology and archaeology. There are paths for walking, cycling and horse riding, you can even drive to the top of the hill to take in the views. In Carding Mill Valley there are excellent visitor facilities including a tea-room, toilets and car parking. In Carding Mill Valley you can play in the stream, watch birds from the hide, pond dip and relax with a picnic; or you can simply use the Valley as your base for the day and head on up the hill for an adventure.
One of our favourite National Trust places to walk, great views and varied difficulty paths for all abilities. Waterfall path can be slippy when it has rained, not too difficult but the path is not level and you have to scale large rocks along the path would not recommend attempting with a pushchair or wheelchair! Car park can get very very busy in peak periods i.e. weekends so arrive early to avoid disappointment. Photo of car park is from a Sunday at 10am...
What an incredible place to visit. There are stunning views as you ascend and also when you reach the top. The road up is single track with plenty of pull in points, should 2 vehicles meet. Parking is free at various points as you ascend and at the top and there a sheep a plenty all over the hills. Great views and peaceful. What a wonderful place.
This place is STUNNING so many streams and waterfalls great for hiking abit of climbing but the views are just incredible and you can take a dip in the reservoir we took the shorter trail the light spout walk and still took us 3 hours absolutely recommend this place for a day out. The parking is PS8 for the whole day unless national trust member then it's free there's a cafe and toilets at the beginning by the car park lots of wild horse and sheep you can take dogs but signs say must be on lead due to the horses and sheep but this place is incredible I will definitely be going again
Beautiful valley with fabulous walks for amblers and hikers. Tearoom and toilets also balcony above Tearoom to sit on when weather is nice. This is such a popular beauty spot that it gets very busy at weekends school holidays and just about anytime so get there early. National trust area PS5.50 to park if not a member but can join of visiting
Absolutely stunning place! First time visiting and it definitely won't be our last. Very well kept and clean, the waterfall that runs all the way down is so clear our dog had so much fun. Lovely friendly people around and the sandwiches from the tea room were very nice. Lots of space to park even in half term. Love love love Carding mill valley
Beautiful place but the two walks poorly described. Shorter walk appeared easier on paper but not for the feint of heart. The steepness of the climb near the waterfall up to the next part to the top where the wild horses are would be a no for many. They need to highlight this. Saying all this it doesn't detract from some beautiful views as the pictures show. Parking is PS5.50 for non members. Also note this is a popular place for school / college outings. There were 5 coaches so it was busy, for a week day. The toilets are poor, made worse by the number of younger visitors, no disrespect intended. Would I go back? Maybe. Hope this review is balanced, I try to avoid too much negativity, there's enough out there!
