Heritage site featuring 1500s furniture & art, plus a dress-up room with period costumes & armour.
Really interesting museum. It was a great video to watch at the beginning, giving lots of great info about the house and the occupancy over the years. There is plenty to see in all of the rooms , and the scullery is full of bits and pieces that are recognisable in kitchens from only a few years ago ... The " Squirrels Dinner Party " is very weird but hard not to look at.
A great little national trust! Very interesting to look around and learn about, although not too big so only takes 30 - 45 minutes. There is a kids play room, and a few dressing up opportunities as well. If you go in the last hour before closing it is cheaper and will still give you more than enough time to look around. When you pay, they also give you discount coupons for the other museums nearby which are worth checking out.
Again another great museum to visit the dvd was very informative and was especially nice to get a better understanding of the history as I'm not native to yarmouth I came down on a holiday and it was definitely worth the trip
Really enjoyed this one! A bit of a hidden gem in the historic docklands of Great Yarmouth. An interesting walk through the history of a house spanning over many years and also a lovely example of some William Morris wallpaper (yes....I'm a bit of a Morris geek...). Also a really interesting toy room complete with squirrels! There are toilets here, but no cafe (not that you would struggle to find a cafe in G. Yarmouth!)
Lovely museum that will entertain you for a good hour
Intriguing restoration/recreation of an Elizabethan town house in Great Yarmouth that's also historically important, as important people who visited the house plotted the execution of Charles I. right here, in the so-called "Conspiracy Room". Which is also the most fascinating room in the house and includes a number of interesting artefacts. It's not clear whether Oliver Cromwell ever visited the house himself, but that hardly matters - it's steeped in history as it is. The museum is run by "National Trust", and the entrance price of UKP 6.50 (adult ticket) is totally justified. The volunteer at the information desk was very friendly and helpful. You'll get a glimpse into everyday early 17th to 19th century upper middle class life, too. There's a kitchen, a study room, a bedroom, and more - but it's the "Conspiracy Room" that seals the deal. Plenty of info boards around to make you understand the exhibits better. One of the few historic sights in this town, definitely worth a visit (won't take you more than an hour). You can also relax for a bit in the small back garden.
