13th-century, Cotswold stone barn, once part of a monastic farm, with original wooden roof beams.
Impressive and well care. Worth a quick visit. Parking free just in front. There is also a nice walk from the barn to another national trust, aprox 1h 30min round walk.
This really is a treasure. Open 24/7, yes really, this historic tithe barn is extremely impressive both in terms of size and preservation. The building itself is empty, which you would expect as it was a barn so you can see the historic beams, roof and walls with lots of detail. It's generally not that busy and you can really feel the tranquility of this pretty place. Parking is limited, a small strip for maybe 8 cars to the road side. But there is generally room except on weekends when hikers park there. You can park in the nearby village though.
Great place to check out maybe have a picnic
Impressive building, especially considering it was built about 700 years ago. We walked past on a circular walk to see the bluebells at Bradbury Clump. It was open and we had a look around. We didn't stay long, but it was worthwhile to see.
Free parking next to the barn along the side of the road, as you enter it asks for a donation for its upkeep. There is information about the history in a small barn to the front, with a box you wind up to hear the commentary, really good. Also a 15 minute walk uphill to Badbury clump which has stunning views and carpets of bluebells in spring. No toilets, dog friendly
Beautiful barn. Really grand and lovely architecture. It's really big. There is not much in the way of bird droppings on the floor when compared to other barns/dovecots which makes for a more pleasant viewing. There is free parking on the road right next to the barn. We found it easy to find a space. There are information panels about the barn's history. There is no toilets or refreshments and it was not manned when we went. It's free to visit. There is a guidebook (subject to availability) you put money in an honesty box. Great for a quick visit. It makes a nice addition to a day trip out in the local area. If I'm passing by again I would pop in again.
