This monument commemorates Thomas Hardy, the renowned English novelist and poet, and offers stunning views of Dorchester and the surrounding countryside from its elevated position.
Complete solace. One or two others were letting the wind clear their cobwebs. Foxgloves, heather abound. Bees buzzing.. Hardly a tractor or motorbike ,campervan in site. Visit here, then pop down too the beautiful church /lake at little bredy. Then onto mangleton mill for a slice of cake.. Xxx.
Large car park but narrow gate. My campervan just got in with folded mirror and centimetres to spare. Great distant views of Weymouth bay, Portland and a glimpse of Chesil beach. Very good info board about Hardy the naval man, not the author.
As a National Trust members we didn't pay so can't help you with that but the 2 volunteers were great lots of info very helpful & pleasant Not much to it but I liked it Here are some views from the top

The woods walk was beautiful, and the air was so fresh and clean. The views of Portland were amazing!.
Stunning views. On a clear day it's 360deg of absolute beauty. Great opportunities for walks. The car park has a very narrow entrance. There is another car park down the road which also has a narrow entrance. Information board / map. Picnic tables.
