Georgian manor with art, furniture and a museum of keyboard instruments, set in a landscaped park.
A superb place. Went with family including my 7 year old and two dogs. Nice play area, dogs on leads, lots of open walks and paths through fields. Great to see the donkeys and cows too. Nice cafes and clean WC facilities. Enjoyable time and looking forward to going back again soon.
Wonderful landscapes and specimen trees with a house full of internationally famous keyboard instruments. Played for example by Bach Mozart Chopin Elgar Marie Antoinette Charles II George IV. Earliest surviving Steinway in the UK. What not to love. Sadly as the house is home to a private tenant photographs of the inside of the house not possible. 2 cafes with limited food offerings. A good second had book shop. Car park large with overflow not too far from the house. Mobility aids can be borrowed and booked in advance.
What a lovely surprise. We drive for an hour to get here based on the long grassy walks for our rescue dog who has sore paws in his old age. We managed to secure the last parking place by the entrance although there was a large overflow car park if you don't mind an extra short walk. Welcoming people, beautiful grounds, beautifully maintained and a lovely Georgian House. We were lucky enough to arrive on a sunny and warm day. Do not miss the large dragonfly pond, it is delightful. Great cafe too with smiling happy young people serving.
A very pleasant short walk was enjoyed on a hot day, across grass land and through the cooler woods, before entering the house. No photos allowed in the house as it houses a private collection of very old keyboards, many owned or played by the most famous of classical players abd composers.
One of the best National Trust sites, we have visited in a few years. Everything from the staff, maps, cafes, car park, walking routes, break-out benches and tables, all well thought out and you can see that this site has its customers at the heart of its activities. The site and the walking routes are also family and pram friendly. Oh and if you are feeling peckish, the spicy cauliflower pasty and the Conisbee sausage rolls are amazing.
Car park opens at 10am in the morning , plenty of spaces in the car park . The visitors area is just situated in the car park where you can pay or use your national trust card. Take time to look at the map as lots of different walks to do . Loads of places to have picnics and a lot of picnic bench's to sit at . A lovely treehouse for the children to climb in the wizard area in the woods , a lot of wild life at this park . The house opens at 12 most days.
