Tranquil, ancient royal hunting grounds with grass paths, a forest walk and 1200-year-old trees.
A good long walk to and in Hatfield Forest up to the Cafe and lake is always a pleasure. It's nice to stop near the lake and have a rest on the various benches provided. Lack of signposts and public toilets (except at the Cafe) though.
Beautiful place full of dog walkers. Lots of field to explore and open spaces. No playground/manicured lawns or flowerbeds like other NT places. Cafe is basic but delicious and more outdoor picnic spaces then indoors
Beautiful NT property. Cafe by the ornamental lake serves a range of tasty snacks. Car park fee for non-NT members is a tad high though - PS9
A stunning forest to visit with plenty to do. There is a little outhouse with equipment and resources for visitors to use, including bug catchers, magnifying glasses, puzzles, and outdoor games. My daughter loved looking at the antlers. Great facilities on site, the cafe has a wide variety of options which included gluten-free sandwiches and sweet treats. They have a lovely undercover picnic area, which over looks the lake. We opted to do the boat ride, which was PS10 for 30 minutes. It is great value and plenty of time out on the water. The forest has an abundance of nature walks and definitely a place where you could spend the whole day. Parking is PS8 which you pay on arrival or free with a national trust membership. If you take a picnic, it is a great value family day out with something for everyone.
Beautiful walk with our dog lots of space and great facilties and the National Trust look after it so well.
A beautiful venue for a visit, family time or, in our case a dog walk. A great place for a walk. Paths for easy walking, great access for prams and wheelchairs... But also grassy paths, through woods and open spaces. A map is available to help navigation. The Hub also provides games and activities for children. The beauty of the area is quintessentially British Countryside, with a stunning lake. The other stars are the staff, on entry and at the cafe. The car park is free if you are a National Trust member. All staff we met were so helpful and cheery... And they sell Doggie Ice Cream!
