Wonderful place to enjoy with your family. They have a team room as well, you can have lunch there. Parking is PS5 when I went there for 4 hours, which is fine. There is a stream, small building, lots of lawn to play around.
A beautiful park sits in the peak district where one can easily spend a day, either taking a trail walking inside the greens or enjoying the sunshine on a bench next to the tea room. Spend as much as you could to buy yourself a tea, a coffee, a lunch or snack to support the National Trust and to thank for their effort to bring us this beautiful gift of heritage.
Ilam grounds are in much better condition now, than when I last visited them a few years ago. All the lawns are well mowed and in good condition, as are the gardens. It's a great place to visit, as the surrounding area is great to look at. You can stare for ages and never get bored. It's great to chill out. There are two places where you can get refreshments now. The cafe in the old stables and the Manifold Tea Room, which are just a few steps away and still retain it's olde worlde character. Ilam Hall and grounds are managed by the National Trust and therefore, if you are not a member, parking will cost you a fiver for about 4 hours. Don't be put off by this, as I think it's money well spent. There is an overflow car park at the rear of the regular car park, which you might have to use as Ilam attracts a lot of visitors! Oh! Don't forget the riverside walk, there are lots of garlic plants among the trees by the river, so it's likely you will smell it as you are walking along.
An absolutely fabulous picture perfect, National Trust house & gardens, in probably the quentist hamlet ever. Exceptionally beautiful walks and outstanding scenery. Not to be missed.

What lets it down for me and irony is the amount of rubbish that was on the ground and plastic bottles that floated in the lake with the wildlife. It's disgusting and really appalling that people are just that careless, also that the issue hasn't been dealt with quick enough. There were so many families yesterday that I can see why this happens. This is probably why I generally don't like people... because they ruin everything. National Trust aren't 100% at fault but they do have a responsibility in the up keep and maintenance. I mean that is part of what I'm paying a membership is for, isn't it? The WC's were disgusting. The cleanliness was out the window. For some reason I could push the entry barrier freely as I entered the men's but for some reason my wife had to pay in order to pass the barrier in the women's. Apart from that... it's a lovely place.
