This 13th-century tithe barn is one of the largest and most impressive in the country, featuring a grand timber frame with 12 bays and a steeply pitched roof. The barn's stone walls are constructed from local limestone and are adorned with decorative stone carvings. The interior boasts an impressive array of medieval architecture, including a magnificent roof structure and original wooden doors. The barn has been beautifully restored and now serves as a venue for events and exhibitions, offering a unique glimpse into the region's rich history.
Congratulations if you can find it. It's a sharp left after the farmyard past the school. Yes drive into what appears to be a private drive. The barn was unmanned so you seemingly walk in through the side door and enjoy its vast expanse.
We were only round the corner - worth a walk to to understand what a Tithe barn is. Unfortunately it's only open April to October so couldn't go in
Worth a visit just to see the sheer size and construction of this building. It's a pity that pigeons inhabit the inside which create a lot of mess, but still worth a visit although 10-15 mins would probably suffice.
I love the atmosphere in this historic Tithe barn. Great information boards. Didn't know about the community storing grain to pay church taxes. 10% of the community grain must have been a lot of grain given the impressive of the barn. Great amount of parking. My children loved running around in it. Definitely worth a visit. Would recommend.
Difficult to retrieve in winter. Setting is fantastic with common land and ancillary buildings including cider press. Public footpath access is limited and could do with a through route for walkers to visit and pass through.
Parking would be tricky in bad weather. But great place to stop and do the walk from tithe barn to Cleeve Prior
Good for kids
