Author Virginia Woolf's 16th-century country home, with personal items & art, plus flower gardens.
This lovely historical place has been beautifully preserved. The gardens are spectacular as is the South Downs view. The staff are all the warmest and most welcoming of people. Very knowledgeable too on all fronts. It is like visiting an old relative being there. There are lovely touches like the lady reading Virginias diary, in the field near the ponds. Really enjoyed that. The ponds too are teaming with dragon and may flies which are stunning.
Garden looking beautiful. Such amazing views, made incredibly special by the talented expressive storyteller sharing exerts from Virginia Wolf's diary this afternoon. It doesn't get much better!
It's a privilege to visit this beautifully preserved house. You MUST book as it's incredibly popular and very busy, many visitors are clearly making a pilgrimage that's very personal to them and the staff were always sensitive and kind to everyone. Even if you know little of the story it's still a moving experience and very well cared for.
If you are visiting here without cars, make sure to remember the bus time! The staff are wonderful, they have every information and are very kind. The house and the garden are well cared. Must visit as a Virginia Woolf fan.
Interesting area to explore especially the garden and the outside for the viewing, some nice weather can afford a good couple of photos can be had when visiting this spot. Overall a good place to have a visit.
This National trust site is the small home of Virginia Wolf, where you can see 4 interior rooms, 1 garden writing hut, and the beautiful (but small) gardens. There were no signs inside but fantastic volunteers shared interesting information about her life and home. You can see in about 20-30 minutes but do need to prebook. There is one small toilet in the garden area which is adequate if needed.
