National Trust country manor from 1601 with Tudor art in noted Long Gallery, plus formal gardens.
A stunning house in Somerset, UK, built in 1600, at the end of the Elizabethan period. The painting ha are from the house, but the contents have been brought in by the National Trust. Lovely gardens. My favourite parts were the little stone summer houses at the corners of the front garden, but also the (gluten free scone) cream tea!
Lovely property. Fortunately we arrived just as a guided walk started. This was a great talk about the house and grounds. Interesting interior, grounds and walk to a local wood. Nice lunch from the cafe. The outdoor seating area is walled around and keeps you warm when it's sunny but windy. Equally nice cream tea later on.
Fantastic architecture externally and grounds are excellent as well . Internally needing seriously addressed as only bottom level open. It looks like upper levels are not opening soon as waiting in funds. Still worth a visit with nice cafe and adjacent shop.
Lovely gardens to spend a few hours. Children's activity area, picnic benches, easy walkways, dog on lead friendly.
Absolute lovely time with the kids here, I had a national park voucher and decided to use it here, a beautiful place with stunning gardens and grounds, loved the second-hand library we all had a browse, kids loved the little games etc that was scattered around. Lovely food and wasn't too badly priced kids eat all their food too which was a bonus,l. Lastly, a quick buy and browse in the cute little shop at the end had things from garden plants to novelty magnets. Highly recommend a visit in the summer holidays as a cheap day out with the kids
Lovely day out. Beautiful grounds clearly marked for a selection of walks. The house is only open on the ground floor at present due to unsafe staircases but there are guided walks to give further information about the house and people who have lived there. We had the most amazing lady called Clare taking us and she was so knowledgeable and gave the information in such a clear interesting way. This was not my first visit to Montacute but in the 45 minutes we were with her I learnt far more about the place than ever I had reading the booklet or going around the house. She just brought the whole experience to life therefore walking around wasn't just 'a huge house lived in by generations of very rich privileged people' . Fully recommend anyone visiting to do this.
