Find out about the dramatic story of King Charles II hiding from Cromwell's troops at Moseley Old Hall after he fled the Battle of Worcester in 1651. See the bed on which the King slept and the priest hole in which he hid, and hear fascinating stories about what life was like in the 17th-century from our tour guides and costume interpreters. A variety of 17th-century plants, a fruit orchard and a striking 'knot' garden adorn the graceful gardens. Further into Kings Walk Wood there is the tree-hide for children of all ages to explore. Treat yourself in our very popular tea-room, with homemade cakes and biscuits or a light lunch. We've also got lots of events, activities and demonstrations for all the family.
After recently joining the National Trust, this is the first property I have visited. I was pleasantly surprised. We were met by a friendly team who helped me with my temporary membership card and guided us through what was on site. Once we entered the main property, there were various guides inside that were very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm not a massive history buff, but this was very interesting. There were plenty of games laid out across the gardens for children. It also seems very dog friendly. This is a place for all ages, and I think my National Trust Membership is great value for money. Thank you to everyone I met and spoke today at the property. Be aware that the lanes to get to this property are narrow.
A gorgeous building, absolutely steeped in history and the National Trust have done a great job in presenting it! The national trust helpers and workers here were great also, I've had mixed responses from them at other sites so I'm glad to say I'd recommend this site! A lovely little bookshop in the entrance/exit area too!
I have visited this lovely property several times during the last 12 or so months and it never fails to impress me. The ambience and atmosphere is delightful whatever the season. The gardens are lovely; orchards, a herb garden, a spectacular Medlar tree and a recreation of a 'parterre' garden based on a 17th century design. Today I took part in a guided tour of the Hall itself; Janet, our guide, was knowledgeable and gave much information and insight into the history of the place. There is a nice tea room serving coffees, teas and various snacks and light bites, outdoor seating is also available in the orchard. Reception staff are informative and welcoming. There is quite a narrow lane approaching the site so careful driving is necessary! Highly recommended.
We've had a great time here today, so much for children to see and do. Explore the outside and build dens or climb the treehouse. Take a look inside the mansion and dress up in clothing from the 1600s. Take a rest and have a bite to eat in the tea room. Definitely recommend for families.
My 5-year old said as we were leaving... 'When we arrived my mind said I hate National Trusts, but now I love them!' One of the best ones we've been to for some, particularly for young families. Painting, mud kitchen, garden games, obstacle course - so much great stuff for children thanks to the staff! Very interesting story of King Charles hiding out, lovely staff, also a great stop off shortly off the M6 - much better than a service station!
Had a great visit today. Staff in the house were very welcoming and explained a lot about the history of the house and how to make the most of our visit. The garden is also amazing. The staff member on reception and shop was not so welcoming unfortunately and to be honest put us off buying anything else, but definitely wouldn't stop us from visiting again
