Protected 6,000-year-old dune system with spectacular views of the nearby hills & the Irish Sea.
Really handy car park and beach boardwalk down to a very pleasant beach area with dunes and sandy beach areas. Great for picnic, bbq family day, dog walk. Lifeguards are stationed during the busy season (don't know exact dates). Toilets and cafe in car park. We use this every time we are in Northern Ireland.
Beautiful stretch of beach, lovely walk from the car park to the shore, great place to find shells and the van serving coffee was a welcome treat on our return to the car park
A beautiful beach 5-10 minutes from the car park walk along boardwalks through grassy sand dunes. There is a pay and display car park on grass but it's free for members of the National Trust. In the summer there are lifeguards on duty and an information board with temperature & tide details. The beach is long, great for walking and is overlooked by the mountain, Slieve Donard in the distance. The highest part of the beach is largely pebbles whilst lower beach is sandy. Today when the sun was out there were lots of families building sandcastles, sun bathing and children playing at the waters edge I stepped in to the water for a paddle & the water felt so cold! Dogs must be kept on leads.
Fantastic place to park up for the bay. Toilet facilities are spotless and plenty of space to have a picnic in the grounds if you desire, but the real reason for being there is the bay - beautiful and stunning views, a must see.
It is a great place to bring kids. The beach is long and flat, which means the water is shallow. It also means the tide comes in quite quickly. We had a really great time. A beautiful view of the Moune mountains and the sea. As we were arriving at 10 am the early morning, swimmers and photographers were leaving. There are big bins which are handy but the only toilets are in the car park, so a bit of a hike. This is not a wheelchair friendly place as most of the car park is grass, and although there is a smooth path to the beach, there are no beach wheelchairs or help available that I could see.
Absolutely worth visiting and we came second time. The beach was long and white sanded, although the wind is slightly heavier than the ones inside the bays. The way from the car park to the beach was lovely too, cows and horses onsite to interact with.
