This vast area of heathland, woodland, and wetland is a haven for wildlife and offers scenic walks, cycling, and horse riding routes. Explore the ancient woodland, heathland, and wetland habitats, and spot rare birds, reptiles, and insects. The commons are also home to the New Forest ponies, which roam freely.
A lovely spot to stop and have a picnic, bring a blanket. Plenty of space for the children to have a run around. You might even see a few of the ponies.
It is a lovely place near the car park is a huge sand banked hill ... be sure all are happy to walk where wild horses roam... My daughter and partner at first site of a horse decided to end the walk..five minutes in... no exact route maps that I could see ..but didn't really see enough if this was a problem.
Beautiful place to stop and have a picnic and admire the scenery or for kids the amazing sand hill! Free parking and a Ford to paddle in plus lots of new forest ponies and horses to admire plus donkeys and the odd cow near by :)
This is such a beautiful part of the country. If you haven't visited yet, I seriously suggest you do! There are so many beautiful places to stop off and enjoy a picnic, some quiet time, to do some drawing or painting, I will even say it's a wonderful place to go and write if you are looking for peace and inspiration. I will say that I'm probably bias because I feel so happy whenever I'm there.
Loved our time in The New Forest over the last few days so beautiful this series of photos shows views of the Avon river on the A338 going towards Fordingbridge. The scenery was just stunning.
There is a lovely Ford that runs across the road where the river is shallow enough for paddling in. It seems very popular with families and those with dogs. There are places to park at the side of the road and the day we visited there was an ice cream van parked up. He was doing a roaring trade. Ideal spot to spend a couple of hours when the weather is good.
