16th-century hunting lodge on a rolling 725-acre estate known for its exhibitions and country walks.
Living in Bristol and very knowledgeable about not only the local area also Great Britain, I was surprised to find out Newark Park was within 30 minutes of my house as I have never heard of it. Wow, what a place to visit. The house and grounds are outstanding. I would highly recommend a day out here
Set in large grounds, Newark Park offers a variety of (mainly) woodland walks, that range from gentle, around 45mins, to challenging, up to 2 hours. There is also plenty of open space, with areas for children to play, picnic spots, a lake & beautiful flower beds. The house is smaller that you would normally see at a NT attraction, but that does not detract from what it has to offer. There are fun, historical areas inside for children, with the chance to dress up as in Tudor times. The cafe/tearoom is a bit pricey & unfortunately my scone had seen better days, but at least hubby enjoyed his orange & poppy seed cake. Dogs are welcome & there were many there, not sure the peacock was impressed.
Lovely old house staffed by knowledgeable and very welcoming volunteers. Much more accessible than other national trust properties due it's unique heritage. Lovely cafe in the garden, stunning walks can be had just from the house grounds.
Absolutely beautiful place. House was fantastic, able to walk around and not be bothered. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Toilets available. Car park available. Highly recommend to go and see. Gardens Absolutely fabulous.
It's a great place to visit if you want to go out for a day and enjoy walking. The house and grounds are vast, but if you struggle with walking then select shorter distances. Some of the places are quite far and ground is uneven which can be challenging for some people. They have shop, small cafe, lake, playground and garden to see and enjoy. Cafe is quite small and it's a outdoor service. It's not far from Bristol and the entrance fee is not as high as some of the other national trusts.
Newark Park is still a project that requires a few years more work carried out on it but it is a Very worthy project. Thanks to an American man with a vision we have kept a gem from being lost to nature. Well worth a visit with a house with a fascinating history and extensive grounds reclaimed from Laurels and Japanese knot weed. It started as a Chatsworth type hunting tower on steroids in the Tudor period!
