This 18th-century estate features a stunning Georgian mansion surrounded by 1,000 acres of parkland and woodland, offering scenic walks, a picturesque lake, and a variety of wildlife. The mansion itself boasts an impressive art collection, including works by Gainsborough and Reynolds, as well as intricate plasterwork and decorative ceilings. The estate also includes a beautiful walled garden, a orchard, and a woodland walk with a variety of rhododendrons and azaleas.
The hike around to Loe Bar/ Porthleven and back, from the Helston side of Penrose Estate was spectacular. It ended up as a 14k varied hike, with woodland , lakeside, beach, coastal, town and National Trust Estate. Fairly good walking tracks, just a few nobbly roots to watch out for in the woods. Toilets in Porthleven and NT cafe on the home straight, on return through the Estate, at Stables Cafe.
Whatever the weather,Penrose delights! Today's walk was through early spring flowers with the mist coming in from the sea...and a stopover at the Stables Cafe for Cheese Toasties and Tea./ coffee. Great area for walking the dog. Plenty of free car parking at the old fairground car park in Helston or other smaller free NT car parks.
Do NOT go for a bike ride with children! Me and my husband took our 2 children here for a bike ride. The first section was a tarmac road until we got round to Helston and then it was forest, field, beach and steep narrow coastal paths. Not ideal or safe for young children!
Lovely walk, with a beautiful beach- ideal for relaxing and eating picnics but swimming is not permitted (dangerous rip tides). Friendly cafe with nice coffee, ice creams and cakes. As everyone else has mentioned there is a bridge missing off the walk, so this will add on to your time! that's why I scored it 4!
Small car park, but well laid out paths. Took us a couple of hours to slowly walk to the beach edge and back the same way, round the lake would take quite a long time! It wasn't great weather but we managed to stay dry hiding under the trees. Nothing was open when we went as it was Xmas day but looks lovely. Easy wandering
A beautiful walk, and great cafe. Dog friendly - there are lots of people and pooches on the walk. The full loop is quite long so check how far you want to go before setting off!
