Explore the fascinating childhood home of General James Wolfe, victor of the Battle of Quebec (1759). Discover the dramatic battle that won America for the British and learn of Wolfe's tragic death, in our exhibition. Travel back in time and see the house as it appeared in the 1730s when James Wolfe and his family lived here. Fall asleep on our replica 18th-century bed, or take your chances with Mrs Wolfe's 'cure for consumption' in the kitchen. Afterwards sit back and relax with a cup of tea in Mrs Wolfe's charming 18th-century garden.
Had a lovely visit here, we parked in the car park just down the road, which is only a couple of minutes' walk. The house is very homely, and the volunteers were friendly and helpful. The house has lots of character and history. They sometimes give away free treats baked in the kitchen. The small garden is well maintained and peaceful.
Most enjoyable visit to this National Trust house. We parked in Derwent Car Park. It's the most convenient place to park if you can get in. Close to Quebec House and the village green. We paid PS4 for parking all day on a Sunday(August 2024) . The actual village that Quebec House is in is very pretty, although somewhat busy with through traffic. However, this doesn't distract from the lovely shops and old properties around the village green. We ate Sunday Lunch in The Kings Arms that is opposite the village green. Very nice place. Good prices and helpful staff. Could definitely recommend you take a look. The Church just off the village green is worth a visit too.
We had a guided tour of the house and our tour guide Trevor was excellent his knowledge of the history of the house and the life of James Wolf and his family was amazing all the other staff including Trevor were very friendly. The tour was just over the hour and took in four rooms you can also visit the barn which is situated above the reception and parking is a 5 minute walk away which cost PS1.50 for 3 hours. Plus we came across a Red Admiral basking in the sunshine.
It was a lovely place to visit when we went it was guided tours only ,the gentleman who delivered the tour was very knowledgeable and helpful and also very friendly .
National Trust house, where General Wolfe lived as a child. Fascinating artefacts from his life. No tearoom and few toilets. Carpark in the village.
Well worth visiting. If you go on a weekday there are guided tours on the hour which is definitely worthwhile attending. You have to book in advance. There's scaffolding up at the moment so you can't see the full front of the house.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Getting tickets in advance recommended
Good for kids
