I was really impressed how much there was to see here despite being small. Had a warm welcome followed by a look in the 2 information sections, one upstairs from the reception and one out in the courtyard showing the information on the history of Rainham Hall. We then looked around the house, which is spread over 3 floors. The staircase going up to the 3rd floor is difficult if you have mobility issues as it's a spiral one. The cafe is small but has a nice selection of cakes and sandwiches. There's not much seating, so you may have to wait for a while. The garden is looked after by the community and has lots to see.
This place is local to me so surprised to see something so lovely in the locality. Beautiful Georgian house. The lady guide was very knowledgeable. You travel through different eras of the house. Very informative. Small cafe and very expensive but hey ho just opposite the courtyard is a pub where you would get a cheaper drink or food. Worth a visit.
A must see, worked in rainham years ago and never knew this was here. They give a great talk and it really is a nice house. Cafe a but pricy.
What an interesting look back in history, visiting this Georgian house is ! The grounds are beautiful as well . Present day it's PS6 to get in but worth every penny . A nice cup of tea can be had in the converted stable on site as well !
Lovely afternoon here. Very informative guide who gave us the history of the place. Three-acre site om three floors with a basement. Great for children as there are several activities they can do throughout the house and in the grounds. It is well set-up for school and group visits. The information in the house touches on education, science and fashion. The gardens were nice and they have bees! Rainham Hall honey may be coming soon! Great cafe and outdoor area too. Nearest overground is Rainham Station or 287 bus from Barking Station. Suggest visiting Eastbury Manor on the same day as they are relatively close to each other. Definitely worth a visit.
Very interesting to listen to the volunteers and the stories they tell about the "normal" people who have been living in the house since it was built in the 18th century. Nice garden and tearoom too. Easy to reach via public transport.
