This 17th-century house is a treasure trove of fascinating stories and secrets, with a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Explore the opulent interior, featuring intricate plasterwork, stunning stained glass, and exquisite furniture. Wander through the beautiful gardens, including a walled garden, a woodland walk, and a scenic lake. Discover the intriguing history of the Lenox-Conyngham family, who lived in the house for over 300 years, and uncover the stories of their lives, loves, and scandals.
The house was shut due to renovation work. There are a few paths, but these were very muddy and quite slippy when we were there and one was closed. Dutch garden is small but would be lovely in late Spring and Summer. A good place to spend an hour. Entry into gardens is free, you need to pay for entry into the house unless you are a National Trust member
Visiting this place was absolutely wonderful because of all the history each of its rooms holds within, the beauty of its gardens and estate. Worth visiting.
There are a few short walks available through the grounds in winter, but the house and other facilities aren't open in wintertime. The paths can be quite muddy at times and the slopes in places mean that they are not suitable for everyone. Access to the grounds is free, but the entrance fees for the other facilities are, in my opinion, expensive if the visitor isn't a National Trust member. We saw no litter, but unfortunately, despite the signage and efforts of the staff, there was dog mess evident in places.
Don't be fooled by the small frontage, this national trust property holds a wealth of significant historical items. Almost all of the collection is original to the house. It is quite the national gem. Lovely friendly and informative guides, beautiful gardens and quaint coffee shop
Lovely house and gardens are breathtaking. When we took the tour we couldn't go upstairs unfortunately due to electricity being upgraded. This house looks huge from outside but much smaller on the inside. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely visit again
Absolutely beautiful place to visit. The house is stunning with a long and colourful history. The house tour is very interesting and I highly recommend that. The walks around the estate are beautiful and there is lots of information for kids to learn. Staff are so friendly and helpful. The bookshop is great so pay a visit there.
