Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1 3/4 miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. Tarn Hows is located in the low level hills between the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead and is ideal for a walk or cycle trip from either. It's a favourite with both regular and first-time visitors to the area and is popular with artists and photographers who love the setting and the views.
Good parking and accessible "walk" around the tarn (but not down to the waterfall). We got some amazing views between the showers and even an "eastbound" rainbow.
Beautiful natural attraction in the Lake Distract National Park. Run by The National Trust. Good car park, free for National Trust members (NTS members free too if you have your sticker). 2 mile loop round the tarn, suitable for most abilities, enjoy the scenery. Great little Coffee stall in summer months.
Absolutely stunning walk, if you are near by this has got to be on your list of walks. The views are amazing. It's owned by the National Trust so if your a member it's free to park. Definitely recommend
This is a beautiful place to visit. The walk to the waterfalls is very rocky, so some people may find it tricky. The walk around the lake, though, is all on paths, which is much easier. Our family loved the beautiful scenery here.
Lovely peaceful place to go and relax. Wheelchair accessible if you have a rugged outdoor chair or you can hire the Tramper scooters from National Trust. The pathway is gravel with some steep areas, so be prepared to have help with these areas or risk tipping. Otherwise, it's a really beautiful place to have a stroll
Excellent walking loop for all abilities. Perfect for the whole family. Good parking and all terrain mobility scooter / tramper rental if you book in advance for those unable to walk. Lovely volunteers and a lovely morning or afternoon activity in the Lake District
