Historical house showcasing 15th-century Tudor-style architecture, art, homewares, games & more.
Great if you're into Tudor history, but lacking a deeper narrative/story. They don't know much about who lived there. Basically just three rooms to look at. Guides did their best to explain what each room was used for and how people lived. A few games for kids. Won't be much new for anyone that has visited similar properties. The place was full on a rainy day so we had to wait a few minutes for someone to leave before we could enter.
Worth a visit! Went here during our holiday with group aged 5-75. . . All thoroughly enjoyed. It's a short-ish activity due to the size of the property but this is reflected in the price which seemed fair. We had a free pass from the paper which they accepted. Very interesting insight into merchant and Tudor life, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides were what really made it. We had a great time. Just check ahead opening times before visiting as isn't open everyday.
Only small house, worth a hour of your time. Each floor ( and kitchen garden) had excellent members on hand to educate and chat. So interesting to find the source of so many sayings we have in modern English. The little garden contains all the plants used in culinary and healing use. Everyone labeled.
Beautiful Tudor building, very well presented and a warm welcome from the staff who are very knowledgeable. No NT parking so used a beach car park and had a 15 minute walk along the beach to the house. No shop on site.
I would first like to iterate that I in no way am blaming the volunteers working at the home- they were lovely and very knowledgeable. I believe there was around 2 items in the home that were actually authentically from the home- a sideboard and a toilet. Everything else had been manufactured or replicated. Replications weren't actually historically accurate either. All information on the provided sheet was the same as in the info provided on the pillows dotted around the building providing minimal information on the history of the home. New walls built, staircases added and areas blocked off all in all made it not very historically accurate at all. Also, the herb garden could use more labels.
It was fantastic. The building was well laid out with lots of interesting artifacts. The guides were so knowledgeable it was a great experience. The garden was fascinating made more so by the knowledge of the guide about how each plant would have been used . Thank you all .
