Stone-built mansion and serene gardens, now National Trust, with link to George Washington's family.
Great National Trust property to visit if you're interested in local history. Lots of things to do with kids as well - there is a playground in the gardens and activities during school holidays. Very friendly staff who always make you feel welcome and are very knowledgeable about the history of the hall/area. I definitely recommend!
Beautiful old building with a very interesting history. The house itself has a wealth of information boards, and the guide was fabulous.very, information interesting and knowledgeable. I'm so glad I went out of my way to visit.
A lovely small Nation Trust building and garden with a lot of history. There's a small shop/second hand book store on site. We didn't see the cafe, I think it was closed on our visit but a quick stroll into the village and there's places to grab a meal or just a coffee there.
A very historic building with links to George Washington. Great story about how it was saved from demolition. Lovely to see the tree planted on the green when Jimmy Carter visited.
I'm local and was passing through so stopped to check it out. There isn't a great deal to see but has an interesting history. The gardens were getting some maintenance but weren't as well kept as I'd have expected. This is a small place which took about 1 hour to get round. The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable. The village itself is pleasant with a few pubs and a popular cafe close by.
We visited Washington Old Hall recently after waiting for it to reopen from Covid. It was certainly worth the wait. My Daughter loved the mouse hunt in the hall itself and the history of the building itself is very interesting indeed. The guide in the house was also very keen to answer any questions too. I have seen on other reviews that people have complained about the grounds but I think they are a perfect balance of Formal and neat at the hall and the wild garden which is still tidy yet perfect for nature. The only downside to the grounds was that the bird feeders never had any food in. Other than that though they were perfect. When we visited they had a mobile making craft day on for children which was free to do. Staff were friendly all throughout the site too. The car parking is on the street outside however there is disabled parking on site if required. There is also toilet facilities on site too. People have complained about the lack of coffee shop on the site. There is some local shops not far away for those that need refreshments. All in a very good place to visit and we will certainly be back!
