This 18th-century windmill, restored to its former glory, stands proudly on a hill overlooking the River Stour. Its white weatherboarded exterior and distinctive cap roof make it a picturesque sight. Visitors can explore the mill's interior, discovering its rich history and witnessing the massive wooden beams and machinery that once harnessed the power of the wind to grind corn.
Ancient water mill site, beautiful location. Present mill not running and in need of restoration but shows all workings and gearing. Interesting and informative and in original condition. Worth visiting. No visitor amenities or cafe.
It was a great mill dating back to the Norman conquest. The National Trust volunteers gave us a tour of the mill and were very informative.
Beautiful place with a lovely bridge a riverside walks. Just need to remember the mill doesn't open until 12!
Lovely National trust trail along the river and through the village and back. However the path along the river stour from The Mill is so overgrown and full of stinging nettles so was very hard going, needs cutting back badly. Still enjoyed it though and free parking at The Mill across the road.
An absolute hidden gem of an English Heritage attraction. One of the oldest mills in England (probably the world) with the earliest parts of the building potentially dating back to the early middle ages set in a serene landscape next to a 12th Century bridge. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guides. The best family outing possible for under PS10 (for 2 adults and 1 child)
Very interesting double mill with many of the oldest parts in their original place. It's not working, so it's safe to have a close look at the old engineering. Narrow stairs and some of the upper floors are unsafe and roped off, which is a pity. But there's plenty to see, and it's good to watch the waters running through. The grounds are very pleasant, with a good view of the river and medieval bridge. Shady spots for a nice sit down.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Good for kids
