This charming boathouse is situated on the banks of the River Ouse, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The boathouse features a delightful café serving a range of refreshments, including homemade cakes and light meals. Visitors can hire rowing boats or canoes to explore the river, or simply sit back and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The boathouse is surrounded by picturesque walking trails, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing day out.
A real insight to Agatha Christie and her family. House is in a picturesque setting with an interesting garden and boathouse. Be aware the house is a good 15mins walk from car park but there is a little buggy to take visitors with mobility issues.
A fantastic day out, the house is excellent, so amazing collections of both furniture and ceramics, the grounds were also superb, walking to the boat house is well worth it for the view. The cafe was very nice, you could even get a beer and sit out and have a picnic. Dogs were welcome into the grounds but not the house.
Love this NT property. Agatha Christie's house and all the history that goes with it. Beautiful grounds and house. Reaches right down to the river Dart. There are open bits and shaded walks and it leads down to the boathouse on the river which when open is lovely to walk on and look at the views up and down the river. At the top southern end you can get a fantastic view all down the river, really worth the walk. At the top there is also beautiful flat landscaped gardens and a little pet cemetery which my kids found fascinating. A really lovely place to visit. There is a typical NT shop which also sells Agatha Christie books and a second hand bookstore which my kids loved and enjoyed choosing books from. We didn't try the cafe but there is what looks a little one. However be warned, it is on an incredibly steep slope, not great for the disabled or physically unfit. And toilets are only near the main house and entrance. You can get to the property by a boat trip or you can drive but the parking is very limited and you definitely want to book in advance (they also only allow you 3 hours in the car park which in my opinion isn't quite enough to do it all). However if you are members of the NT then I really recommend going more than once to be able to take it all in.
Book your parking in advance. It was wonderful to see the house with all Agatha's possessions. The gardens are beautiful to walk round with some fantastic views.
A wonderful afternoon at Greenway, despite getting absolutely soaked walking down into town the catch the foot ferry there! One word of warning if you don't like wasps... I decided to have a Devonshire cream tea whilst I was there - what should have been a pleasant treat turned into a wasp fest!! I'm not talking one or two but ten plus, which meant I had to eat it on the go, literally! Although I don't like killing any critters, they need to get it under control, especially in August! A wonderful place with fabulous views of Dartmouth. Would happily return - just wouldn't eat there, ha ha...
One of my favourite places I used to work at and to visit as a member. Not too busy today with the weather, but the house was as gloriously kept as it used to and the volunteers were lovely and helpful to answer any questions you had. Took a nice stroll to the boathouse, not really for those who have walking difficulties due to steps and inclines, but the views of the river Dart was gorgeous and we even spotted a seal. The cafe was open until 4:30pm today and though a little pricy due to inflation, the pasties and savory cream teas were very scrumptious. The lovely Paul was kind enough to give us a lift back in the buggy and everyone who knew, wished my dad a happy birthday. A grand day out!
