Standing 142 meters above the Atlantic Ocean, the Neist Point Cliff Lighthouse Viewpoint on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and surrounding waters. The lighthouse, built in 1909, still guides mariners through the rocky shores, its beam visible for 16 miles. On a clear day, visitors can see the distant Flannan Isles and the expanse of the ocean stretching to the horizon. The viewpoint is surrounded by dramatic cliff faces, rocky outcrops, and windswept grasses, creating a dramatic and isolated atmosphere.
One of the top places in Scotland/the world that landscape photographers MUST visit in almost any weather and at any time... preferably at sunset when the sun isn't hiding too much behind the clouds... because then the sea looks beautifully pink. It is simply a magnificent and breathtaking place for all people. The place speaks of powerful, breathtaking nature, almost like the end of the flat world, if it existed :) The drive to Neist Point is, let's say, challenging? bumpy? full of terrible potholes, single track with passing places (which many drivers didn't use properly or at all, but that's another topic), promenading sheep... :D If you make it through without a puncture, the next obstacle is to find a parking space. If you succeed and the weather is to your liking, you can spend hours walking, photographing, droning and observing. The panoramic views are indescribable, even if you just go to the lighthouse viewpoint... but there are so many more places to walk and see (of course you have to play it safe depending on the current weather). It is possible to see dolphins if the gods are with you. No toilets. It can be very windy, so be careful not to get blown away.
Lovely place - hat and jacket are must my ears were frozen in 54f lol the walk isn't too bad and the view is amazing.
An amazing location with stunning views. The drive to Neist Point can be a bit tortuous, but it's definitely worth it. You can view the lighthouse from the cliff tops, but if you're able to manage the walk down (and back!) the views from the actual Point are well worth the effort. We walked down to the water's edge, which is a bit of a scramble and should only be done if you're confident and the weather is good. But we were lucky to see a small pod of dolphins out to sea, which was a perfect bonus. Obviously the site is dependent on the weather, but on a good day it's beautiful.
Stunning place. The walk to the lighthouse is paved. When we visited it was quite windy, no rain.
Absolutely stunning. Pretty narrow single track to get here and very busy. Probably the busiest single track road we drove our whole time exploring the highlands. Very small parking lot at the end of the road but lots of street parking. No facilities. Free parking. If you don't have time to go to the bottom explore as far out on the top as your can as the view just gets better the further from the parking lot you get.
We had a fabulous day to visit Neist Point, a steep walk down, and walking back was more challenging but definitely worth a visit for the views. We didn't see any dolphins, but Neist Point is supposed to be a great place to see them. Sunsets would be great, too. We also visited on a windy, overcast day but still a good walk.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
