Unmanned lighthouse built in 1909, on a rocky cliff-top overlooking a causeway and the coastline.
Incredibly beautiful landscape and very particular abandoned lighthouse. Visit highly recommended. Only reachable by car, however, be sensible when it comes to get there by car, the road is one lane only with passing spaces. We went yesterday and it was quite packed, there was a few car jams due to cars getting stuck. We parked about 1km before the car park and it was the best decision ever, it was just a 15' walk to the car park and then about 26' easy hike to the lighthouse. When we went back, drama started because people come here to watch the sunset, it's probably beautiful but I wouldn't recommend. There was a huge jam on the way to our car that we sorted cos we were on foot but after there were so many cars stuck on the way down and everybody tried their best to unlock the situation and at the end everything worked out but it was a sticky one and the cars that were coming from the car park were still stuck. Use your common sense when driving to this place and don't park at the parking even if there's no jam, it may be hard to come back after the visit. Car photo shows way past the car parking (on our way back). Further cars were all stuck not parked on the way in and the way out. We parked on the left far corner from viewers point, there's also a grass area where people were parking.
Ticked off the bucket list, absolutely stunning. It is a steep decline down and the same up so good footwear is recommended. We climbed the large hill overlooking the lighthouse and although incredibly windy, we were rewarded with the most amazing views. It is challenging getting in and out up the single lane roads, especially with the camper vans blocking them.
A long and winding road to get there, but worth the effort. It was a bit grey the day we visited, and we didn't have the time or energy to walk to the lighthouse. We did walk along the clifftop path which gave a good view of the lighthouse. On a lovely sunny day I expect it will be even more beautiful. Be aware there are no facilities, toilet, etc, and it will be quite busy a lot of the time. Free roadside parking.
The viewpoint itself was fantastic. I'm adding my review that the drive to it was hell. There's a lot of blind spots so cars easily got jammed. Be patient and wait at the passing places if you see an entire line of car. We went at like 3pm so I can't imagine how it would be at sunset.
Extremely picturesque Lighthouse worth the drive out to if you're on Isle of Skye. We had no problem with parking but arrived quite early, beware in peak season. Very small roads as usual of Skye. Also worth noting for my favourite view, actually turn right and walk up past the hill next to the carpark before heading down to see it closer. The walk is short but has some extremely steep sections that are slippery when wet!
It's a great place to see. Quite a hike, so wear good footwear. I camped out there as you can wild camp in Scotland, and it was quite an experience. Did a spot of fishing near lighthouse and got a couple (which I ate), and the remains were fed to the Amazing views but very windy at times. The drive is not for the faint-hearted!!!
