Nelson's Pit Visitor Centre is a former limestone quarry turned tourist attraction in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England. The site features a network of underground tunnels and caverns, showcasing the region's geological history. Visitors can take a guided tour to explore the quarry's industrial past, see ancient fossils, and marvel at the stunning rock formations. Above ground, the centre offers exhibitions, interactive displays, and a café with scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
Great location to meet up and help with the campaign for Tim Roca, Labour party candidate for Macclesfield, ahead of the general election on July 4, 2024.
Nice facilities and a great variety of walks nearby.
Really good value car park Also a lovely amount of beautiful walks and facilities nearby.
Nice clean toilets, not much else there but good place to park for walks along Middlewood Way and Macclesfield Canal
A handy spot to shelter from the rain, and learn a great deal about the historical significance of Nelson's Pit. Public conveniences available too.
This isn't a visitor's centre in the sense you may be used to at other places - it's incredibly small. There are toilets, and a single room with some displays about the history of the place and nothing more. The displays are quite informative. There is a cafe and pub the other side of the bridge. These were both shut when I visited. The Middlewood way is accessible with pushchair or wheelchair if you use the access slope on the side of the bridge opposite the visitors centre.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
