Nevern Castle is a 15th-century fortified house located in the village of Nevern, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The castle features a mixture of medieval and Tudor architectural styles, with a rectangular design and four towers, one at each corner. The walls are constructed from local limestone and the roofs are slate-tiled. The castle's façade is asymmetrical, with a large gatehouse and a smaller entrance to the side. The interior boasts a grand hall with a large stone fireplace, ornate plaster ceilings, and a wooden screen separating the hall from the chapel. The castle's history dates back to the 12th century, with the current structure built by the Owens family in the 15th century. It has undergone several restorations and is now a private residence, open to the public for guided tours.
Nice little secret spot for a picnic. Beautiful small village to stroll through and up to the top through a steep climb but manageable for children. Informative boards for a bit of history.
Beautiful village. Lovely walk up to the castle, having visited the wonderful church first. Interesting boards with the history of the castle. Friendly locals, and also public toilets that were open.
Fantastic hidden place great in whatever weather the dogs loved exploring
Lovely spot to explore with the family, If you walk from Nevern church you have to walk up quite a steep winding hill not really suitable for young children as we found out but you can also drive to the other side and walk a little ways
Interesting history in a lovely area of Nevern pembrokshire w Wales Nevern castle, there's strong evidence that fitzMartin appropriated the lands of Nevern church as demesnes for his knights, expelling the heriditary clergy who had lived there previously.
Couldn't have recommend the Nicholas and Cameron tours enough for the castle. Insightful and throughly enjoyable trip. We felt looked after and they took their healthy and safety to another level. Would've been 5 stars if their knowledge was more accurate
Good for kids
