A small, peaceful memorial dedicated to the airmen who flew from the New Forest Airfields during World War II, featuring a bronze plaque mounted on a wooden backboard, surrounded by a beautifully maintained garden with a variety of plants and flowers.
Perfectly peaceful place just after a campsite. Can also see some old stretches of runway.
Quiet location. Can park in layby next to it. Interesting
Not much info about the airfields themselves, more about the organisation that built the memorial. That said it was very interesting and a very striking memorial. Recommend walking around the immediate area of Homsley South looking out for the long stretches of old runway - quite captivating.
A unique and worthy memorial, fitting for its purpose, and representing all of the efforts and sacrifices made by all in the New Forest area during WW2. Worth a visit when you're in the area! You can even swing by whilst camping at the Holmsley Campsite, located on the old airfield just next to the memorial.
Interesting memorial to the airfields in the New Forest and the aircrews and people that supported them during WW2. Worth a visit if you want to learn about the local history. There were a surprising number of airfields, the outlines of many can still be seen from the air or on Google Maps/Earth satellite images.
I have been to this memorial lots of times, as it's on route to Christchurch from my home nr Hythe. Each time the sun has always been behind the memorial, this time it wasn't. Best photo I've taken so far. Well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of New Forest airfields.
