This is a beautifully conserved castle! We visited two locations of the castle. The smaller location contained museum exhibitions on how the castle was used overtime and some things that were found on site. The larger location had a bit of a hidden entrance, but it was absolutely amazing. You could walk through the castle and explore its history through the many mazelike corridors and chambers. There were signs everywhere which nicely explained what each room would've been used for. The top of the castle also offers an amazing view of the city! There are a lot of stairs though, so if you have difficulty walking, I'd recommend sticking to the smaller location as there is an elevator available there. Also, if you buy an entree ticket, this is valid for a whole year.

Well preserved castle with a neat museum inside. The uses of each room and the daily lives of its medieval residents are displayed in each room. There are also some spring staircases that take you up to the top of the towers of the castle, which offer excellent views of the city below. Go as early as possible to avoid the crowds later on in the day.

Coming from Canada, we can truly say that we don't see attractions like this back home... even though we found it rather confined, that's the genuine mark of the times! So we can't fault it for that. I found it was the ideal balance between having displays, informative plaques, etc. and being more austere. Plenty of stair-climbing, some rather on the steep side, but my daughters loved that bit... and going up on the roof to snap some photos of the Newcastle skyline.

Very interesting historical landmark with an excellent exhibition detailing the history of the castle and it's different functions over time. Entrance ticket includes access to the black gate, and the entire keep itself. Not very cheap (PS 12,50 in February 2024), but well worth it in my opinion. Exploring the castle was one of the highlights of our short visit to Newcastle
