This museum showcases the history of North Weald Airfield, a former Royal Air Force station, with a collection of aircraft, memorabilia, and exhibits that highlight its role in World War II and the Cold War.
Excellent, quirky, small independent airfield museum, well worth a visit if you are interested in WW1, WW2 and post war military aviation in the UK. Displays are a bit idiosyncratically laid out, but the information and sheer density of exhibits is amazing. A labour of love for a famous Battle of Britain airbase. Parking free on street.
Nice little museum dedicated to the former air Base.
Doesn't look like a museum, but it definitely is. Loads of genuine artifacts, friendly staff. 3 floors. Took about 30-45 minutes. Tickets PS5 adult, concession PS2.50 child PS1. Pay on arrival Parking side of building. Recommend a visit if you are in the area or interested in aviation.
Too much in a small space. Try doing a theme . Either down scale or move to an old hanger. Don't bother upstairs unless you see something to buy.
Museum in the old commander house, split into 5 rooms with lots of collections of fighter aircraft models, war posters, rationing books etc. We took the Epping Ongar steam railway to North Weald and spent over 1 hour visiting the museum as part of a day trip. We could have spent more time if we had more time. Recommend to visit.
Wow, what a fantastic place, the guy on the desk was great and who knew you could cram so much history into one small historic building? The history was fascinating and showed how important the airfield was in its operational years. With even some interesting books taken away. Finally the museum is not temporarily closed, check with the museum directly for the opening times!
