Norton Conyers is a 15th-century tower house situated in North Yorkshire, England. This ancient fortress features a rectangular tower with four storeys, surrounded by a curtain wall that encloses a courtyard. The tower's architecture showcases a mix of medieval and Tudor styles, with stone walls, battlements, and narrow windows. The structure has undergone several restorations, yet it still retains its original charm and historic significance.
Full of history, welcomed by the owner's and a very good guided tour. Beautiful gardens too. Well worth a visit.
Tucked away close to Ripon this really feels like a proper old family home. Very charming with lovely producing gardens, especially apples, beans, fruit, courgettes all available to purchase (and pick l think) Dates back to anglo saxon times, visited by Charles l and James ll and even Charlotte Bronte
Privately owned garden. Beautiful very well kept. Extremely friendly staff.
Norton Conyers has an interesting history particularly with one of the 19th Century Baronets having to sell it with his illegitimate offspring buying back the house and estate 20 years later. It still remains in the family. The house is not open that often but has been restored (winning a HHA award) and there is a presentation of the house and its history from the current owners and descendants of the Grahams. The house is believed to have inspired Jane Eye and has had royalty stay there. There is quite an extensive walled garden which is enjoyable to walk around.
Fantastic gardens so worth a visit can't wait for hall to open next year
.... Oh, we did enjoy these gardens. ... For sheer variety of shrubbery.. And early colour... .... The two lady volunteer gardeners were a delight to speak too.... And took time with us... The gardens had a great calm about them with no traffic noise..... And very few people. Treat yourself and drop if passing........
Wheelchair-accessible car park
