Nunney Castle is a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle situated in the town of Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. The castle features a mix of medieval and Victorian-era architectural styles, with turrets, towers, and battlements. The building's facade is constructed from local limestone and sandstone, with a striking red sandstone used for the window and door surrounds. The castle's interior boasts ornate wooden paneling, intricate plasterwork, and stunning stained-glass windows. The surrounding grounds encompass 25 hectares of lush gardens, woodlands, and a tranquil lake, offering scenic walks and picturesque views.
Beautiful castle which you can cross the moat and walk around. Lovely little walk. There is a step up into the area so not wheelchair accessible. Access to this castle is completely free. There is no allocated parking but I've always found street parking without a problem.
Beautiful castle with some great history. Lovely trees and greenery nearby. A lovely place to stop for a coffee and picnic on way back from London to Cornwall. There is a small corner shop, a lovely cafe and a pub.
WHAT an absolute little gem, I almost wanted to buy it and give it a refurbishment, set in a super little village of Nunney, with a super friendly pub and beautiful church thrown in,,, the castle history is so cute and troubling at the same time,, but it's still standing quietly with a story to tell,,, and it's actually free to visit which is an absolute credit to village as I'd of love just a collection box somewhere even just to pay the gardener and feed the fish in the moat
Nunney castle is an English heritage property that is free to enter in the village of nunney near frome. When you first see the castle and it's moat it's a wow, and something quite unexpected the castle was built in the 1370s and renovated in the 1600s before the civil war destroyed large parts of it. Although it won't take long to look round , it is well worth a visit as is the pretty village that surrounds it
Charming place. When we went there it was very clean and there was hardly anyone there. There was a little bridge to play pooh sticks so you could bring a few sticks, and there was a family of ducks with ducklings. There is a small village shop, a pub nearby and I think I saw a cafe. On street parking. Didn't see much wheelchair access, but you could probably get a chair round the outside if it's not wet weather as it gets muddy. There are some gardens within walking distance but I didn't go. Free entry.
Free small car park only 50 metres away, free to walk around the castle. Not much to see, but well worth a visit if not traveling too far. There is a small cafe, but it was closed for a family holiday. Our friends grandson turned into the night of the castle, he loved it
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
