Gateway to the Laurel Highlands offers 20,500 acres of hiking, whitewater boating & picnicking.
I always like coming here when it's nice out. There are a lot of places to eat at in the summer time and ample parking. I recommend walking across the bridge and checking out the trails so that you can get on the opposite side of the falls for a better view. It's a nice walk and can be rocky at times. You get a completely different angle of the falls and it is a much better view compared to the side of the falls where the visitor's center is.
Beautiful hiking trails with plenty of water to cool off if you wanted too. These photos are Ohiopyle Falls, but there are numerous falls along the trails. So so so very beautiful! Pets are allowed on a leash, trail is very rocky, we used hiking sticks to help guide us along the way. Be safe and enjoy!
Amazing State Park! We did a 5 mile hike around the Great Gorge Trail! Beautiful trail and great views! Along our hike we saw waterfalls, Youghiogheny River, natural rock waterslides, and an area you could jump in! Highly recommend!
What a beautiful and large state park! We tent camped at the campground and really appreciated how large and set apart each site was from another. They also offered showers and had a separate sink in each bathroom to wash dishes. Nice feature. The whole area is great for hiking and kayaking and is close to Fallingwater too.
Great experience but hard to navigate best areas. Locals are helpful maps are not River, waterfall, rock hounding and fun. Dogs are welcome. I did see 3 copperhead snakes but I used peppermint and castor oil, so they did not get close.
There is a wide variety of things to do at Ohiopyle. We camped over a long weekend, and enjoyed the trails, fossils, falls, and history. The visitor center and surrounding walkway are great, and well maintained. The town itself is charming, although a tourist trap. Several businesses offer rafting, kayaking, bike rentals, et cetera. I pass through a few times a year, and believe that the best times to visit are the shoulder seasons and off season, when you can experience the natural beauty without the thronging masses. I once drove across the park in winter, with the only sign of life being a few stray deer on the edge of town.
