Old Pound Smithy is owned by Bex and Dave (makers on the BBC's Money For Nothing TV show), who offer fun and inspiring blacksmith courses and experiences. The Smithy has been set up in the old Pole Barn; a gnarly building of corrugated sheet and old wooden beams, right in the heart of the site - just as the ancient smithies were in the center of the village, the place villagers would come together around the warm forge. This is off-grid, back-to-basics, traditional smithing, with ancient restored bellows and treadle grinding stones. We can offer courses to anyone from the age of 11 years and up. Our courses include The Two-Hour Taster experience, One-Day Forged Geometry Sculpture course, and our One and Two-Day Knife-Making courses.
Myself and family can not speak highly enough of our stay. The two Bell tents we had were awesome. The beds, unbelievably comfy. The setting, outstanding. Our hosts, brilliant. My partner was very much anti camping. We booked initially for 3 nights, ended up staying 5.
We had the most amazing stay at Old Pound Smithy. We booked two nights and the only fault I can think of is that we didn't book more nights! The owners are absolutely lovely, the facilities are very clean and modern and the whole experience from start to finish was great. Very family friendly, we came with a 3y/o and a 9month old and it was perfect.
Had a fabulous stay. Wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful location. We wish every holiday was like this one. We will be booking again next year.
Our stay at Old Pound Smithy was nothing short of magical The communication beforehand was great and Bex was so lovely and around if we needed anything. We stayed in the yurt...so beautifully done! The grounds are wonderful to explore and David and Bex have really thought if everything! We didn't need to worry about anything during our stay. We had our children with us and took our own camp beds for them which worked really nicely. Will hopefully be back! Highly recommend!
We stayed here for 5 nights with our dog and had a fantastic break. The cottage is beautiful and rustic but has everything you need. Comfy bed, large living area with the log burner which was so cosy in the evenings. The hot tub was amazing and just what we needed after a busy day walking along the coast. Lovely hosts who were around if needed. Easy drive to get to the coast to visit lots of the beautiful beaches. The Farmers Arms pub in the village and the chip shop are both fantastic!! Highly recommend staying here and would definitely come back again.
ABSOLUTE GEM! We stayed in Whittlers Yurt for the weekend and did the two hour blacksmith taster. The most tranquil perfect weekend, hosts thought of every detail not a single thing missing or not enough of! Hot tub was gorgeous, log burner gorgeous, comfy bed, all cooking utilities, acres of walks and best of all the blacksmith course was so knowledgeable and fun! Will be returning
