The Old School Inverasdale is a former primary school situated in idyllic rural surroundings on the western shore of Loch Ewe. After serving the community from Naast to Cove for 136 years, the School was mothballed in 2012 due to a shortage of pupils and closed in 2016. However a successful community campaign allowed Wester Loch Ewe Trust to purchase the school in November 2018 to maintain and develop it under community ownership. Over the last 8 months the building has been undergoing extensive renovation together with an extension to provide a kitchen, accessible entrance and toilet facilities in Phase 1, The Old Schoolhouse Tearoom. There is still some fitting out work to do but we do hope to be open in the summer.
Just happened to drive by here and thankfully it just happened to be a Wednesday! This delightful little tea room is only open on a Wednesday at the moment. Whether or not this changes with the season is perhaps a question for someone else. Ten to twelve good sized tables, a good handful of attentive volunteers and a smashing selection of cakes! I had a black coffee in my bone china cup, my better half opting for tea, then we chose some cake, had a chat with the volunteers and left a donation for their charity as there are no set prices. Nice one!
The weekly Wednesday afternoon tea (with home baking) experience was delightful. The volunteers in this lovely old school building were so kind and friendly. It now operates as a Community Hub and it was a pleasure to support this charity.
Fabulous afternoon cafe 2-4pm every Wednesday making everyone welcome. The cakes are all homemade and delicious, donations only and you can gift aid as well.
Lovely community centre in the old school. We went to the cafe Wednesday and had a lovely scone and tea. Must visit if you're in the area!
It's only open two afternoons each week, but is entirely staffed by volunteers. Payment for the excellent tea and cakes (hone made) is by voluntary contribution and goes towards the upkeep of the building as a community asset. If youre visiting the area, please make use of this brilliant initiative and donate generously.
What can I say about this place, have been a few times before, but now the Convoy exhibition has moved to Aultbea, the displays have become more about the history and personal memories of the school itself. We picked up a salad bag on entry and paid using an honesty box. It's clear this place is still very popular with local people and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. Now to the cafe, well that's a very unique setup. You order your drinks and choose from a wide selection of delicious cakes and biscuits, all locally home made. Then you pay an appropriate donation of your own choosing. The choice of cakes and biscuits was just too mouthwatering, so my wife and I shared a coffee and walnut cake, plus a lemon drizzle one. Then I nagged my wife for a piece of sumptuous chocolate cake. Brilliant. Will be back!
