This elegant bridge spans the lake in the gardens of Prior Park, Bath, Somerset. Designed by architect John Wood the Elder in the 18th century, it is a masterpiece of Palladian architecture, characterized by its symmetrical composition, classical proportions, and ornate details. The bridge's five arches are adorned with balustrades and ornate carvings, creating a sense of grandeur and serenity. As visitors walk across the bridge, they are treated to stunning views of the surrounding gardens and the city of Bath beyond.
Beautiful views and a place to walk around... best value if you're planning a day out and a picnic or are a National Trust member.
Palladian Bridge and the National Trust - Prior Park Landscape Garden itself are must visit spots in Bath. The garden is a short walk which will take about 45 mins from start to finish considering enough time for clicking pictures and appreciating the beauty of the garden whilst allowing yourself to get a little lost. Also, it is a short walk from the Bath skyline! Highly recommend! Tickets can be bought at the gate and were PS10 pp.
It was a metal pilgrimage for me. The cover of Opeth's Morningrise album features the Palladian Bridge. This is one of my favorite metal albums. It was great to see this bridge in real life. I also listened to the entire Morningrise album on the bridge. I will definitely come back to this park again.
Beautiful place! I thought it would be a 20 min walk from the Bath Spa train station, but it ended up being quite a hike to the prior park entrance. We should've taken the bus from Dorchester Street near the station. This is the only way to enter to see the bridge, and there is a PS10 entrance fee. The paths are steep, so wear some good walking shoes. There is an exit at the bottom by the bridge, and then it's a 20 min walk to the station. The views are beautiful! Hope this was helpful!
Very nice place for a walk. Just be careful that there is no parking place at the end of the Church Lane
Must see! One of our favorite places in Bath. Nominal fee to enter the park. Lovely 20 minute walk around the grounds. Good signage. Gorgeous vistas. You can see Bath from the top of the park and there is a place to get a good pic of the skyline. The centerpiece is the Palladian Bridge. Built in 1755. Perfect place to relax by the pond and watch the ducks or take pictures. The trees are amazing and the paths are shaded and steep. Enter at the top so you are walking down for the most part. Walkable from Bath but we took an Uber because our time was limited.
