Parham Airfield Museum is situated on an old World War II United States Air Force Station. It has FREE ADMISSION AND CAR PARKING. The Museum actually consists of 2 separate Museums, which join together to show how this corner of rural Suffolk was affected by the War in two very different ways. The 390th Bomb Group Memorial Air Museum pays tribute to the 743 servicemen killed or 'Missing in Action' from this airfield and the further 741 who were taken as Prisoners of War. The Museum of the British Resistance Organisation provides an insight into 'Britain's Secret Army', with contemporary artefacts housed in the Nissen Huts and a unique replica secret underground bunker. The Museum aims to shed light on "Britain's best kept war secret".
This is a small world war II museum about 10 minutes drive off the A12. Opening times are limited as staff are voluntary, but there is a lot to see, takes about a couple of hours to look around properly. The volunteer staff here are very helpful and answer a lot of questions. Parking and entry is free, tea coffee and snacks are available to buy. Worth a visit if you're interested in world war II.
Fantastic small museum with helpful, knowledgeable volunteers. Well worth a visit.
Visited this great museum during their Military and Classic Vehicle event on 3rd July 2022, and was very impressed. There is a lot to see in the museum itself, and the view from the top of Control Tower out across the old airfield is most evocative. Although the museum is completely volunteer run there is nothing amateur about it. All the displays and exhibits are to a very high standard. Everything is well laid out with much interesting information provided. The volunteers were all enthusiastic, polite and very knowledgeable. There is a very nice tea room and excellent modern toilet facilities. Don't be fooled into thinking this is just a little museum where you can see everything inside of an hour. There is an awful lot to see. It is perfectly possible to spend an entire day. Visiting on a special event day and taking time to look at the visiting military vehicles and classic cars meant we didn't quite get round everything in the museum. I must also say that it is remarkable that this excellent museum does not charge anything for entry - not even PS1. With that in mind I would encourage anyone visiting to give generously - it is well worth it to support such a well-run and well-presented museum. In closing I would highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in aviation or military history. It is also of great benefit to anyone wishing to educate todays youngsters about WW2 - teachers and youth group leaders please take note.
A fascinating record of a momentus period in East Anglia's history
Fantastic museum, the volunteers were amazing. My Grandad was in the 202's. Many people even now didn't know they excised, but here you can find out all about them and lots of aviation and military history. Come and give it a visit, FREE ENTRY. But please give a good donation as well worth it. We had such a brilliant day. Thankyou.
Great staff. Took me on personal tours. Lots of rich history here with the secret British force and the American Army Airforce base. Loved it.
