Step into a surfer's paradise at Croyde Bay with a beach holiday at Ruda Holiday Park. Boasting a sweeping sandy coastline with spectacular scenery, this breathtaking area of the UK really does have to be seen to be believed. One of Devon's best surfing spots and nestled by the picturesque village of Croyde, you can enjoy an abundance of local activities. Take a stroll across the headlands to Woolacombe Beach or treat the little ones to a trip to Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. There is plenty to keep you busy on park too, from splashing around in the indoor swimming pool to burning off energy on the adventure playground, before winding down for the evening in our bar and restaurant.
Fantastic location for caravan holidays and camping. We've done both and always had a great stay. Croyde beach (one of our favourite places in the UK) is literally 1 minute away across the road. Ruda has some very good food places on site, and also a shop and swimming pool for guests. The restaurant/entertainment building is nice, clean and easily accessible for all. Food here is also good. We've had over a dozen holidays here, and look forward to a dozen more. Caravans have always been clean and as expected. The camping section has electric hook up points on each plot, and the shower/kitchen block is kept clean.
The location of this holiday resort is beautiful but I have to mark this resort down as it definitely has work to do. We arrived at the park early as we had booked early check in and my first impression was that the resort needed some TLC, it was looking dated. Now we have to remember that I am comparing the quality of this accommodation with the price charged which was around PS2500 for a weeks accommodation in peak season. We arrived at our Caravan and our early check in was pretty much cancelled out as we had to wait for all the damage to be repaired, the bed was broken, plug sockets were detached from the wall and my wife got locked in the bathroom as the locks on the doors were broke, some of the doors had holes in and the general feel was that it had not been cleaned properly by the cleaners otherwise they would have noticed all the damage. The bed sheets also had dark marks, images attached. We thought this was the end of our issues and in fairness the maintenance team were prompt and polite. We headed down to the main facilities which again were dated but food was of good quality and staff polite. We headed home and just kept seeing rats everywhere, we had them running across the road in front of us and when we got back to the caravan we had 5 run across our porch in quick succession, I went down to the security to discuss this and make them aware, they said they knew there was a problem and didn't understand why their was no pro-active pest control in place. In all I won't be returning as places with this many children and families should take precautions and it seems this place is operated on a shoe string budget. Beware when going to the pool as most of the Rats were around this area. Attached photos for ease.
Absolutely wonderful stay at Ruda. Stayed in a caravan and it was extremely clean and tidy. The staff on park all seemed very welcoming and always there to help if needed. The entertainments team were also amazing always working hard each night. The bar staff in the showbar always working well as a team, serving guests as fast as possible. The park itself has a lovely beach attached, which is within walking distance from park. Our one and only problem was that, one morning we woke up to no hot water. So we contacted for support which was sorted out extremely fast. Simon Kitchen came out to sort the issue. He was very kind and very fast at his work. He got the job sorted very fast and the hot water was back on.
The views were extremely nice but at the cost of very windy weather, I understand the weather isn't up to them but it's not very convenient. The pool system works very well but it would be helpful if you updated it, there isn't much space too actually swim and it is very packed. The service is lovely and the kids are entertainment made my sister very happy. Overall lovely experience end the beach was easy to get to and very nice.
Liked: Location location location! Cannot fault this. Up on the cliff so you can see the ocean from the campsite which is beautiful. The beach is perfect too. Loved the swimming pool and the rapids are very fun for all ages although the slide was out of order which was disappointing. Campsite was wonderfully clean and looked after for the most part and we really enjoyed our stay. Disliked: My main issue really is just the price if things here, you do end up feeling a bit like they are taking advantage of the lack of nearby shops to really rinse you. Nearly PS3 for a small bottle of pop, PS1.70 for water, PS3 for packets of crisps etc from the shop, then the on-site takeaways were extortionate too, PS13 for chicken and chips from the fried chicken place and nearly PS5 for a small portion of chips from the chippy and PS6.50 for a Cornish pasty!! You definitely feel like they've got you over a barrel as there's no shops nearby. Definitely bring your own food wherever possible. The slide being out of order was disappointing especially as it wasn't specified before booking but on the email I got the day before we arrived they stated that it was out of order for all of 2024 - This should be on the booking site really. My only other issue is that the feminine hygiene bins really need to be emptied twice daily as by the afternoon every day they are overflowing which is quite off putting.
Family of Four (two adults two children) we have stayed here twice now. Absolutely loved it both times. The site is well laid out and easy to find your way around. The shop On site is well stocked but a little pricey (to be expected) I would avoid the fish and chip shop on site if I were to go again small Portions very greasy and very expensive. We Didn't try any of the other on site takeaways because of this. We did use the Cascades swimming pool which was a bit of a disappointment due to the main slide being closed and the pool was dirty with green tide marks on the tiles, the rapids bit was very strong and quite hard to get out of (especially when you are carrying a 4 year old ) the changing rooms felt dirty and there weren't enough cubicles for everyone to use. It having said that the kids had a blast. The caravans were very nice. well laid out, spacious and fairly clean (did find a used nappy down the back of one of the sofas and what looked like toe nail clippings) but the views from the caravans were lovely and the beach across the road is absolutely stunning, clean and there is plenty of room even if it's busy. Would definitely recommend staying here but maybe give the take aways a miss. Location is pretty good, can be a bit of a drive to some places but it's a nice area for a drive around.
