Pen y Fan is a prominent peak in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales, with an elevation of 886 meters (2,907 ft). The mountain is situated in the heart of the national park and is known for its distinctive flat top, which is a result of glacial erosion. The summit offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside, including the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains, and the Welsh valleys. On a clear day, it is possible to see as far as the Bristol Channel and the Mendip Hills in England. The mountain is a popular destination for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, with several trails leading to the summit, including the popular Brecon Beacons Way trail.
Amazing views, but definitely not easy for beginners. We used easy route and we struggled a lot. Especially coming down was hardest. Lucky we didn't have too hot weather or rain. Parked in national Trust car park at the bottom of the mountain.
An amazing mountain to climb with wonderful views. It takes around 1.5h to go up and 1h10min. It is not the easiest hike, it not difficult as well. Car park is PS7.5 for all day, there is a toilet and WiFi, what is really useful.
Definitely easy to underestimate this one, was a really good hike and even though it's steep and a tough climb it's easy to do and once your at the top the views are breathtaking and you can officially say your over +800m in the air too, so if your in the area or need a family walk I would recommend this one
What an absolute amazing experience, truly breathtaking. Ensure you have water and a coat as the weather can change towards the top. You must have your photo at the top with plaque. So I started at the phone box and walked up the hard route, this is the way most people come down as it's challenging going up, but I done it, I then walked down the slope the other side, this is the path that most people walk up to the top as it's a lot easier. I done it this way round because this is the SAS route and my mate told me I couldn't do it....so I did it! Half way up the weather changed, it was foggy and raining, the views are great, it's well worth it. Happy hiking
