This nature reserve features a variety of woodland habitats, including ancient woodland, scrub, and grassland, providing a haven for a wide range of wildlife. The reserve is home to many species of birds, insects, and mammals, and its woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells, wild garlic, and other wildflowers in the spring. A network of trails and pathways crisscross the reserve, offering visitors the opportunity to explore and discover its natural beauty.
Pendarves Wood best entered via lodge gate opposite the junction with Botetoe Rd and the B3303. There is a little on road parking opposite the lodge, the walk is a there and back walk but there are two parallel paths. The going is very flat but quite low lying so can be a bit boggy especially after rain. So probably not a smart trainer walk, the wood is kept quite wild apart from the paths. If you are lucky you could see otters, deer and many birds, there is a lake water birds , frogs and newts. The walk is probably a mile long, there are no facilities nothing more than a few benches here and there. Good for children pretty safe apart from water hazards. Really nice couple of hours.
Good place for dog walks, very quiet. We only saw 1 other dog walker in the hour that we were there.
A perfect hot day to visit and walk around the paths of these wonderful woods. The fluorescence of the green leaves, the vibrant colour of the foxgloves and wild Orchids, the cacophony of wonderful wild birds, and the coolness of the breeze through the trees was a perfect escapism from such a hot sun. If you walk from from Treslothlan Church through the woods, you come across a field, called Pip's field. You'll notice on the bottom of the field there was a huge quoit find couple of other antiquity's of interest. Just a wonderful diversion from a busy and hot day.
Kids love this place. Great in the sunshine and the rain. Lake up the top end, home to a swan and a few ducks. The walk is easy along the main path and kids can ride their bikes.
It's a lovely walk up to a lake that has one solitary Swan inhabiting it. Sadly its partner died.
Absolutely stunning area of woodland. Havent yet seen a other human bean whilst we've been walking there. Bluebells are astonishing. Clearly very well minded / looked after. :)
