3 galleries of miniature scenes recreating villages, trains and landscapes of the 1920s and 1930s.
Recently taken there by 'those in the know' . It's a fascinating place I'd never heard of. The models are all handmade in a huge landscape panoply with such detail and care that you expect the figures to move as the model trains pass. The workmanship and scale is amazing!
Amazing place for train enthusiasts, all the staff there passionately explained everything to you as well as the defined workmanship of the model railway and cottages they made was absolutely magnificent .
A superb place - the volunteers are exceptionally friendly and full of information. The model railways and landscapes themselves are remarkable, and provide a fascinating look at life around 100 years ago. Excellent information panels and facilities all round. It's in a beautiful village with a good pub too. Well worth a major detour to visit.
A small museum with three main dioramas of model railway tracks in extensive scenery beautifully built miniature houses trees and all the people etc. The path is one way through the displays. Some were manned by volunteers to explain the displays and also to run the trains. All volunteers were very friendly towards the children.
A real gem for train enthusiasts as well as those who are interested in history. The staff there couldn't be more welcoming and knowledgeable. We went there as two families with children of different ages and we all loved it. 2 hours flew by and we would have stayed longer if we could have timed it better. I reccomend using the audio guides and watching the various videos that are accessible via the side rooms. The staff there really made it special by telling us lots of stories about the models and the history behind them and making us feel so welcome.
Great visit if you are interested in model railways and/ or 1930s history. A few different sets and you will be amazed at the level of detail put into the modelling but also the different cameos of life at that time - even down to the details in side some of the houses shown incredibly well when lit up as part of a night phase. The volunteers are really passionate and interesting to talk to. Really enjoyed it. Check the website for more details
