Penlee House Gallery & Museum is set in beautiful semi-tropical gardens in the heart of Penzance. Penlee House specialises in the art, archaeology and social history of West Cornwall. The collection of Newlyn School paintings (1880-1940) is one of the world's finest, including works by Stanhope and Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Harvey and Laura Knight. Changing exhibitions throughout the year highlight the skill and craftmanship of art in West Cornwall. Check our website to find out about our current exhibition. Admissions charges apply, please see website for details. Free family trails and regular free family activities are available. The Orangery Cafe serves delicious homemade cakes, light lunches and coffees.
Always worthwhile checking out what's on as it puts on great painting exhibitions with a special focus on Cornish Art. Maybe a tadge expensive to get in but it doesn't usually disappoint. Permanent collection upstairs. Pics here are from the current (and excellent) Harold Harvey show and the permanent collection.
Tiny, but good, mine-working exhibits. Large collection of paintings that illustrate Cornish life at turn of the century
Wonderful local gallery that was purchased in 1946 by public subscription to be a War Memorial, which would also house the Town's historic and art collections. Very friendly staff and volunteers. Excellent cafe with artisan delights, great soup, home baked scones and amazing puddings.
We have been to this gallery several times over the years and every time we enjoyed it immensely. The exhibition of works by Harold Harvey was superb!
This is a small but hard hitting gallery. It has some really exquisite examples of Newlyn school artists that really should be seen and enjoyed. It also has some ancient coins and arrow heads that are over 2,000 years old. The cafe is really good too with a wide choice of nice food and drinks. Def worth stopping in for lunch and it's not far from the waterfront either which has gorgeous views
I really enjoyed my visit but was a tiny bit disappointed with the art exhibited. The small gift shop had a good variety of postcards, as well as other items. The cafe was doing a roaring trade & I sat outside in the sunshine with a local beer.
