This nature reserve features a large area of heathland, woodland, and wetlands, providing a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife including birds, insects, and mammals. The reserve has several walking trails, including a wheelchair-accessible route, that allow visitors to explore the area and enjoy the scenery. The trails take you through a variety of landscapes, including heather-covered moorland, mature woodland, and wetlands with ponds and streams. The reserve is also home to a number of historic features, including ancient monuments and old mine workings.
Beautiful place to visit to unwind and escape. There's a fab cafe on site which accommodates for allergens. There are several gluten free options which was a nice surprise so I wasn't stuck with chocolate brownies (however they are delicious!) Good selection of hot and cold food and drinks. Accessible toilets with no wait and we'll maintained. For the little ones there's places to explore and a fab play area accommodating various ages. There was also bouncy castle and some rides when I visited. You can follow various trails and look in the hides to spot local wildlife or alternatively follow the trail to the Bridgewater canal where you can follow the tow path into the town centre easily. There's ample parking. It's free for 30 mins or PS2.50 all day. Includes disabled and electric car parking.
Tried to visit a few weeks ago but the road was closed. Was disappointed to find that the car park is no longer free for disabled vehicles. The parking fees are not very well advertised and the payment booths are poorly signed. Enjoyed the visit and fed the swans ducks and geese.
Large park with lots of water and bird life so if you are a twitcher you will love it. Great for all ages with plenty of pathways and muddy trails that stray from the pathways. Got a dog ? Then if like mine plenty of mud and water it was happy as larry. Loads of parking with an overspill at the back of the cafe costs PS2.50. Good footwear needed especially going off the main path as i do as it is muddy but stick to the main path you should be good with a shoe wipe down i on the other hand always seem to need a jet wash. You can loose a good few hours here and if you kids the paths are suitable and then there is a play area and then cafe with a good choice of hot/cold food with cake and treats . Also the cafe is dog friendly and they have dog treats for sale here.
I love visiting here! Large car park, reasonably priced, with some disabled bays and bays with chargers. Large adventure playground and dog friendly cafe (wasn't impressed with the cafe though). Lots of routes to take, lot of them wheels friendly. Lots of ducks, geese, swans etc to feed. Some lovely views and lots to see. Highly recommended. It can get very busy at weekends and school holidays.
Beautiful place to visit in any weather, nice little cafe available with toilet facilities, allow up to two hours to walk around the whole flash, its great for walking dogs and they have a children's play area, for bird watching there are several hides dotted about round the waters edge, on the canal side you can find local traders on the canal boats, there is also a coffee van at the marina with seating available.
This is a really nice place with lots of local wildlife. The car park is fairly big and decently priced with a cafe nearby that serves all the basics (including proper bird feed). Unfortunately, there are no activities on the water, and I've been informed that it's unsafe to let your dog swim there. It's a respectably sized area, but keen walkers might wish it was a little larger. There are sometimes barges along the canal that act as little shops. Certainly worth a visit if you're local.
