The Penny Jones Monument is a 19th-century monument dedicated to the memory of Penny Jones, a local woman who risked her life to rescue sailors from a shipwreck off the coast of Cornwall, England. The monument, situated on the cliffs at Levant Mine, St. Just, is a 12-meter-tall granite column surmounted by a lantern. It offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline and is a popular spot for walkers and nature lovers.
Just when I thought I'd discovered much of the unsung beauty of Birmingham, I stumbled across this place! A place of peace and loveliness, not unlike the person after which it is named. You will always enjoy a sense of calm when visiting there and any surrounding places connected with the monument and I thoroughly recommend reading up on its namesake! She's a real gem.
There are some 'unseen' heroes of the faith that tread this earth, so I was delighted to discover this 'unseen' monument in honour of the lovely Penny Jones, who is definitely a hero of mine. May she, and any similar truth-teller, mercy-minister, meal-maker, dish-washer-emptier, prayer-warrior...find encouragement to know we see faith in action and we give glory to God because of you!
What a great location to have a monument to one the people in my life with whom I have felt most at home in this new city of mine. Not too far to walk but especially nice to ride a bicycle to the spot. When I visit, I am sure to see her because I run into her everywhere I go in town.
By far the best Monument in Sutton. Will definitely come back again. Was quite emotional to pay homage the the renowned Penelope. Will bring my own refreshments next time as there aren't any nearby.
Some of the best moments of the early 90s spent sat at this monument with a six pack of strongbow and 10 B&Hs.
Beautiful place where I drink
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
