Set in the beautiful Weald of Kent, the country estate of Penshurst Place & Gardens comprises a stunning historic defended manor house, 11 acres of walled Tudor Gardens, a medieval Baron's Hall dating from 1341, an Adventure playground, Toy Museum, Woodland Trail and extensive surrounding parkland walks to discover. Used as a hunting lodge for King Henry VIII, Penshurst Place has a unique place in history. The house was gifted to the Sidney Family in 1552 and has remained in their safe hands ever since, making it one of the oldest family-owned estates in England.
This is very nice big residence. The castle has a lot of nice paintings, a grand hall and dining room. This place had a beautiful and large and well organised garden. There is also a nice big playground and a big wilderness trail for the kids to follow with fun story boards along the way. There is also a nice gift shop and cafe. We arrived a little too late for the Toy Museum which will give us a reason to come back another time.
Beautiful historic house and gardens. Helpful staff and pamphlets for each room. The staff in each area were friendly and knowledgeable. The formal gardens were beautiful and well presented. As in a lot of places the Box hedges have been attacked by the box moth catapillers. Thou seem to be under control.
Wonderful day visiting with two young children. Adventure play area is spacious and surrounded by lovely green countryside. Gardens impressive and immaculate. House fascinating and full of history. Crafts room and toy museum added extra interest for the children, and all staff were very friendly. Cafe extremely reasonably priced - my only suggestion would be to include an item of fruit in the children's lunchboxes (would happily pay more for this). Will definitely visit again.
Beautiful. The gardens are extensive, with multiple 'rooms' created to showcase a variety of planting, some of which was aesthetically stunning. But, far too many plants were not named. If your reason for visiting is to look for ideas you can use in your own garden, then like me, you'll be disappointed with the lack of information. As long as you are aware of this in advance, this won't spoil your visit, because it is a beautiful place and a lovely experience, nevertheless.
Beautiful grounds, storied past, well maintained and restored, eclectic connections, worth a visit and a wander. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the park and many gardens!
Had a great day here, magnificent house full of history & where Wolf Hall was filmed, the garden is very interesting made of separate 'rooms' and well maintained, guides very helpful, & the toy museum is a delight.
